Johanna Gretschel is a freelance journalist in Austin, Texas.

Hi! I’m a freelance writer, broadcaster and producer with nearly a decade of experience covering entertainment, culture and Olympic sports for publications including SELF, Runner’s World, Women’s Running, Outside, World Athletics, Austin American-Statesman and Austin360, to name a few.

I’ve also produced documentary features and appeared as the sideline reporter and color analyst on live broadcasts of the Big 12 Conference Championships, American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships, NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, Penn Relays and more for ESPN+, FloTrack and MileSplit.

I was born and raised in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and went to Tulane University in New Orleans, where I ran NCAA Division I track and cross country and learned how to read and write in between Mardi Gras parades and beer miles. I’m still an avid runner and I’m currently training for the Olympic Trials qualifying standard of 2:37 in the marathon.
